Notes from the UnConference: Part 4
Technology and education, community empowerment, singing rounds and circle games
A selection of notes from several sessions. If you have anything to add, please feel free to share in the Comments.
If you haven’t shared your own notes yet, please do! If you received this as an email you can just hit reply. They don’t have to be perfect, and you can even just share a photo of your scribbled notes if that’s all you have time for. Thank you!
[Edit: The notes on technology and education have been removed for now due to an issue.]
Community empowerment
Nina’s notes on Singing Rounds and Circle Games
Session 1 - Singing rounds
Jellyfish - called by Nina
I called a session of singing rounds, because music is a wonderful way to connect non-verbally. It gives you an excuse to look people in the eye, and connect from the heart in quite a different way than through talking.
I was joined by Varshini, Bev, Elliott and his mum, Sheryl. Each of us taught the others a round or two, which we sang together:
Freres Jacques (in French, English, Russian and Cantonese)
Bella Mamma
Fish and Chips & Vinegar
Mango Kiwi Banana
Lucy the Llama (ascending, then descending major scale)
Months of the year
Session 3 - Circle Games (or other games requiring no equipment)
on the stage and in 'secret room' behind stage
called by Nina and Elliott
This session demonstrated a principle of Open Space: Whenever it happens is the right time
During Session 3, Elliott drank a smoothie in the "secret room" with his mum and dad, while Nina and another attendee sat on the stage and discussed psychedelics, psychotherapy and meditation as routes to self-discovery.
After Closing Circle, Nina, Elliott + mum and Ted + mum played Night at the Museum (a mash-up of Freeze Tag and Magic Statues) on the stage while taking down the Open Space signs.
A fine time was had by all.
